Emmy Award-nominated Liza Garza is a poet, vocalist and songwriter. Infusing the cultural soul of Mexican folk tunes in modern ballads with the intricacy of Hip Hop rhyme schemes, she bridges the ancestral with the modern.  With perfomances that include The Lincoln Center, The Apollo, the National Association of Latino Arts & Culture, HBO Def Poetry Jam and numerous stages world wide, diverse people are finding a home in her voice.

brown girl. flint michigan native. artist. writer. designer. creative. mother. daughter. sister. singer. poet. born to a family of music lovers. i was raised on the sounds of motown music and old mexican folk songs. The biggest influence in my life is indeed the example of my parents, who are still married to this day. Their love of god and love of good has been a complete mercy in my life.

from an early age i witnessed my joy increase when i was in the mode of creating. from this awakening i now approach every part of life as art. as a act of love. by way of this I am a better person, a kinder and more gentle human.

Music is the backbone of my life and work and in addition to a series of projects thats include original spoken word and songs you will also find hand crafted accessories inspired by traditional textiles. I create in the spirit of gratitude for the ability to do so, and also as a means of celebration, or preservation, of protest, of love, of hope.
